Step 1: Apply to 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ

Ìý

After Acceptance to the University:

After you are admitted to the university, 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ's DSO will email an I-20 document to you along with additional instructions to get your visa from a U.S. embassy. The I-20 proves that you have been admitted to a U.S. school; you must have one to apply for an F-1 (student) visa.

During the process of getting a visa appointment at the U.S. embassy in your country, you can expect to pay a SEVP (Student Exchange Visitor Program) fee of $350 and a visa application fee of $160. These fees may change periodically.

Should you choose to transfer to another university before coming to 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ, please inform the 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ DSO immediately.

First-time F-1 students may not enter the country initially more than 30 days from the first day of class.

Student Employment Authorization

CPT and OPT Guidelines

International students may be eligible for work authorization connected to their academic program through Curricular Practical Training or Optional Practical Training.

  • CPT is generally used for internship or work-study opportunities that are integral to a student’s academic program.
  • OPT is temporary employment directly related to an F-1 student’s major area of study.
  • Application processing can take one to two weeks, so students should plan ahead.
