PLAINVIEW, TX — 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University invites students, employees and community members to join an evening of conversation and reflection during Black History Month Talks: More than a Month, set for 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 23, in Harral Arts Complex Studio B.

Subtitled Past, Present and Future: a Student Panel, the event will feature 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ students in discussion with Dr. Bashir Easter, Associate Dean of the School of Business and Assistant Professor of Business Administration. Following the moderated conversation, the audience will be invited to participate in an open dialogue. The event also will be livestreamed on 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ’s YouTube channel.

Dr. Rebekah Crowe, Dean of the School of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Professor of History, said the event continues the university’s ongoing effort to learn from diverse experiences while reflecting on its own history.

“As we reflect on milestones such as Annie Taylor’s integration of 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ in 1951 — highlighted again through this year’s Willson Lectures — we’re reminded that progress happens when people listen to one another and value the different experiences each person brings,” Dr. Crowe said. “Events like this help us keep that conversation going.”

Dr. Easter emphasized that the purpose extends beyond a single month of recognition.

“This project at 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ is impactful because it elevates authentic voices and lived experiences, creating space for the entire campus community to embrace shared responsibility, deepen understanding, and take meaningful action,” he said.

Discussion themes will explore the meaning of Black history at 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ, whether one month is sufficient to honor it, and how the university community can continue growing in understanding, support and accountability.

Students, faculty, staff and community members are encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion.
