SAN ANTONIO, TX — Dr. Jesse Gutierrez IV, assistant professor in 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University's Ben and Bertha Mieth School of Nursing, has been selected by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) to serve on an NCLEX-RN item development panel, an honor reserved for experienced nursing professionals recognized for their clinical expertise and knowledge.
Gutierrez was nominated by the Texas Board of Nursing and selected by NCSBN to participate in the national panel, which met June 2-5 in Chicago. During the four-day workshop, volunteer subject matter experts collaborated in developing examination questions used on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), the standardized examination required for nursing licensure in the United States and participating Canadian jurisdictions.
“This recognition reflects Dr. Gutierrez's commitment to excellence in nursing education and clinical practice,” said Dr. Rebekah Grigsby, dean of the Ben and Bertha Mieth School of Nursing. “His selection to help develop questions for the NCLEX demonstrates the confidence national nursing leaders have in his expertise. Our students benefit every day from faculty members who are actively engaged in shaping the future of the nursing profession.”
Gutierrez said he was honored to contribute to the examination that serves as the gateway to professional nursing practice.
“It was a privilege to work alongside nursing educators and clinicians from across the country to help develop questions that measure the knowledge and judgment expected of entry-level registered nurses,” Gutierrez said. “The experience provided valuable insight into the examination process that I look forward to bringing back to our students at 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ.”
The NCLEX-RN identifies candidates who demonstrate the minimum competency required to practice safely and effectively as entry-level registered nurses. Successful completion of the examination is one of the requirements for obtaining nursing licensure in the United States.
Headquartered in Chicago, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing develops and administers the NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN examinations on behalf of member nursing regulatory bodies.
