PLAINVIEW, TX — Three members of 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓÆµ Baptist University's leadership team officially begin new administrative roles July 1 as the university enters its 2026-2027 fiscal year.
Dr. Cindy McClenagan begins serving as provost while continuing as vice president of academic affairs. Shawn Thomas assumes the role of vice president of athletics and student life, and Dr. Jay Givens begins serving as associate vice president of academics.
As provost, McClenagan will continue serving as 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓÆµ's chief academic officer while providing additional leadership in institutional strategy, academic excellence and long-range planning. She has served as vice president of academic affairs since 2016 and brings more than two decades of experience in higher education leadership, accreditation and faculty development.
Thomas assumes his new role after serving as interim vice president since July 2024. During that time, he provided leadership for athletics, student life, campus police, campus operations and student success initiatives.
Givens, who has served as the university's institutional accreditation liaison and professor of theological studies, will oversee key areas of academic operations, accreditation and institutional effectiveness in his new position. He has served 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓÆµ in numerous faculty and administrative roles throughout his career.
The leadership transitions also include moving oversight of university facilities to Chief Financial Officer Paul Edwards, aligning campus operations with the university's financial planning.
