Dr. Hedgepath recently completed her first year as President at WBU, accomplishing a great deal in a short time. She brings enthusiasm and a clear vision for enhancing campus life. Many of you may know of our new president and have heard a few stories here and there. Here’s a closer look at her first year and what it reveals about her leadership.
Dr. Hedgepath came from Kentucky to become the first female president of 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ. When she arrived, she said, “I love talking to the students and seeing how down to earth they are. They are true blue humans.” She appreciates the diversity and welcoming spirit of the student body and is proud to be leading the university because of its students. She is deeply invested in student life and is working to make 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ a place students are proud to call home.
These are not just words—Dr. Hedgepath has backed her vision with action. In her first year, she approved the remodeling of Pete’s Place, froze tuition, and began the process of upgrading the computer labs and campus software. One major upgrade is the implementation of Ellucian, a system that will help students and faculty better manage academic planning. With this new software, students will be able to view their graduation plans and have more ownership of their academic journey. Additionally, dorm prices will remain the same for the upcoming year.
Dr. Hedgepath believes students should take pride in their campus and in being part of the 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ community. That belief is driving a new strategic plan that includes renovations to student housing and athletic facilities. Students have a lot to look forward to in the coming year.
51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ has already seen exciting progress during Dr. Hedgepath’s first year, and there's much more ahead. As her presidency continues, students can expect continued growth, innovation, and a renewed sense of Pioneer pride.
