A Dive into The School of Humanities and Leadership

Choosing a major can be challenging, but many students may not know that 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ has a new academic division as of 2024—the School of Humanities and Leadership. The school was formed from the former School of Languages and Literature, meaning the professors and academic structure remain familiar—what’s new is the vision and focus. The school just wrapped up its first year, and Dean, Dr. Karen Beth Strovas, also celebrated her first year in the role. Full of fresh energy and vision, this school offers students an exciting place to learn and grow.

What Can You Study?
The School of Humanities and Leadership offers majors in creative leadership, English, film and literature, humanities, professional writing, and Spanish, along with a variety of minors. While some may assume a "new" school means disorganization, that’s not the case here.

Scholarship Opportunities
One benefit of joining a newly established school is the availability of scholarships. The School of Humanities and Leadership is committed to student success and works to make finances less of a barrier. There are numerous generous endowed scholarships available for students in these programs.

Supportive Faculty
The faculty is another highlight. Dr. Strovas noted, “All the professors have a great sense of humor and are very supportive of the students. They also make the classes very rewarding, with a real sense of accomplishment after completing them.” Students here not only benefit from affordability but also from an encouraging, engaging academic environment.

Looking Ahead
The school’s mission is to help students think critically, embrace creativity, and express themselves effectively in both writing and speech. As the school grows, more majors are expected in the future. The master’s program is also expanding, with two new Master of Arts degree options in the works: Creative Leadership and Strategic Leadership. These programs are designed to serve students well beyond their four undergraduate years.

If you’re exploring your academic options, consider the School of Humanities and Leadership. With supportive faculty, meaningful opportunities, and a growing list of programs, it’s a place where you can thrive—both now and in the years to come.
