Mark Your Calendars: Campus Events You Won’t Want to Miss

As the school year is in full swing, don’t forget to take a break and enjoy some of the many events hosted by 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ’s schools. These events are great opportunities to relax, connect with professors, and spend time with friends. Mark your calendar. You won’t want to miss them!

September Highlights

The first event of the semester will be on Constitution Day, September 17. The School of Behavioral and Social Sciences will reveal an art exhibit in the UC hallway, with a live reading of the preamble at noon. This event celebrates the history of the Constitution and offers a chance to reflect on its importance.

On September 23, Limelite will present Trifles, a play performed in the museum auditorium.

The next big event is on September 25, when the Kenneth L. Mattox School of Math and Science will host its anual cookout. This is a perfect chance for majors to connect with professors in a relaxed setting. Also on the 25th, the School of Humanities and Leadership will host its Shaketember event—a film screening of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night’s Dream at 6 p.m. in Gates Hall, Room 208. Free popcorn will be provided, so bring a friend for a fun evening.

On September 29, the School of Christian Studies will host Parakaleo, an all-day event from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ($20 admission). The day will include worship, sermons, and a BBQ lunch. Also that evening, the School of Music will present its recital at 7 p.m. in Harral Auditorium. This is a wonderful opportunity to support music majors and enjoy an evening of live performance.

October Events

October also brings plenty of events to enjoy with friends and professors. On October 9, the School of Behavioral and Social Sciences will host a screening of Encanto in the museum auditorium at 6 p.m. A butterfly cookie craft station will also be available. This event celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month, so come out to support and enjoy the festivities.

Later in the month, on October 13 at 6 p.m., the School of Humanities and Leadership will host another Shakespeare-themed event. In celebration of Shaketober, students are invited to an open mic poetry night. Bring your own poem to share or simply come to listen and snap along in support of your classmates.

On October 15, just before Fall Break, Hispanic Heritage Month will be celebrated with a salsa contest. Be sure to stick around for this event before heading home to see family.

Why These Events Matter

These events are about more than entertainment. They’re opportunities to connect with faculty in a more personal way, enjoy time with friends, and experience the unique culture of each academic school. While Student Activities hosts plenty of exciting campus-wide events, these school-sponsored gatherings offer their own distinctive flavor and are well worth attending every year.
