Assistant Coach of Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track & Field
LOCATION: 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓÆµ Baptist University (WBU) – Plainview Campus
SUPERVISED BY: Head Coach of CC and Track and Field and Athletic Director
POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Graduate Assistants and Student Workers
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Assistant Coach of Cross Country and Track & Field is responsible for assisting with the management, coaching and oversight of all phases of the program.
SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES:
- Coordinates the recruitment of student-athletes who have the ability and potential, athletically and academically, to achieve success at WBU. In that sense, the Coach serves as a recruiting officer of the University, attracting students to participate in the programs
- A commitment to a Christian lifestyle and coaching from a Christian perspective is essential
- Assist in the planning, organizing and supervision of the Cross Country and Track & Field program
- Adhere to all policies and procedures of the NAIA, the Sooner Athletic Conference and WBU
- Arrange for the use of facilities and vehicles through the Athletics Director and Head Coach
- Assist with the keeping of records and upkeep of uniforms, equipment, and supplies issued during the season
- Assist in meet planning and management, including accommodations, meals, entries, and travel
- Assist in supervision of strength and conditioning sessions for the program
- Work and communicate effectively with athletes, coaches, administrators, staff and support staff within the Athletic department and with university employees, campus wide.
- Assist in monitoring student-athlete’s overall well-being, serving as liaison to academic advisors and trainers
- In the absence of the Head Coach be responsible for the team or portions of the team in both practice and competition
- Assist with the management and maintenance of all cross country, track & field venues and equipment
- Participate in community service projects, continuing education, and public speaking assignments as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Certification and License:
- Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science or closely related field is preferred.
- Masters Degree in EXSS or closely related field is preferred.
Experience and Knowledge:
- High School & College competitive experience is preferred.
- Collegiate coaching experience in Cross-country and/or Track & Field is preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Possess good PC skills and experience in word processing, spreadsheet and databases.
- Possess strong coaching skills and the ability to motivate student athletes.
- Possess written and oral communication skills and be able to communicate with a variety of constituents.
- Competent coaching abilities across multiple event areas (distance, hurdles, jumps, sprints, throws, and/or combined events)
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance. If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish their identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Employee must be able and willing to travel. Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle and possess a valid state driver’s license or have access to reliable transportation. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
