Corteva AgriScience donates recycled bench to 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ campus

PLAINVIEW — Representatives of Corteva AgriScience joined 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University students, faculty, staff and administrators Friday, Aug. 5, to dedicate a new recycled-material bench on the north side of the Mabee Laboratory Sciences Building.

The bench was made possible through Corteva’s donation of plastic lids collected by employees at the Plainview facility, along with financial support to cover transportation and production costs. The project reflects a shared commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility between the university and Corteva.

“We’ve had buckets out across our facility for several months, and it’s been exciting to see everyone get involved,” said Timothy Schniers, production location manager for Corteva. “It’s a good way to keep plastic lids out of the trash and turn them into something useful for the community.”

Renee Crane, administrative supervisor at Corteva, helped launch the project after hearing about the initiative through a local service organization. “It’s a great way to have our presence in the community, especially at 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ and right in front of the science building,” Crane said. “We’ve had several people from our plant attend 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ over the years, and this is a meaningful way to give back.”

The new bench is the third of its kind on the 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ campus, adding to the university’s ongoing efforts to promote recycling and environmental awareness. 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ also has a trash receptacle provided through the recycling program. The three-year-old program requires 250 pounds of lids to make a bench. Freshmen students in the Best Achievement Strategies in College class often volunteer to sort and clean the lids to for recycling. The Sally Society provided funding for the first recycling projects, encouraging corporate partners, like Cortevea AgriScience, and area schools and organizations to become involved. Dr. Rosemary Peggram, Director of Student Success, said other businesses, organizations, churches, and schools, as well as individuals, are welcome to get involved.
