PLAINVIEW — The Mabee, a collection of three museums on the 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University campus, is again celebrating the Christmas season with its fourth annual International Nativity Exhibition. Opening Nov. 1, the exhibition will remain on display through Friday, Dec. 19, 2025.
This year’s presentation continues a cherished tradition, featuring all-new selections from the expansive collection of Lockney resident Carolyn Cunningham, whose fascination with Nativity scenes has spanned decades and crossed continents. Her personal collection now includes more than 900 unique sets from more than 130 countries.
“We are always amazed by the depth and diversity of Carolyn’s collection,” said Kasey Porr, Museum Curator and Collections Specialist. “This year’s display includes Nativity scenes that have never been shown at The Mabee before. They represent countries and materials not seen in the first two exhibits, offering visitors an entirely new visual experience.”
Each year’s exhibition has focused on fresh perspectives of the Christmas story, and 2025 is no exception. Porr noted that this year’s collection includes pieces crafted from wood, metal, stone, and even recycled materials, with artisans hailing from Africa, South America, Europe, and the Pacific Islands.
“Each set tells the story of Christ’s birth through the eyes of a different culture,” Porr said. “It’s inspiring to see how the message of hope, peace, and joy is expressed in so many creative ways. The artistry, craftsmanship, and symbolism reflect both faith and imagination.”
KayLyn Bean, Director of Museums at 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ, said the annual exhibition has become one of The Mabee’s most meaningful traditions.
“Each year we see families and visitors from across the region come to experience the Nativity story in new ways,” Bean said. “The exhibit celebrates not only Christmas but the creativity and faith of people from around the world. It’s a reminder that the message of Christ’s birth speaks to every culture and every heart.”
The exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, in the Mabee Regional Heritage Center, located on 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ’s Plainview campus. Admission is free. Visitors are also encouraged to explore The Mabee’s three museums — the Jimmy Dean Museum, Museum of the Llano Estacado, and Flying Queens Museum — all located within the center.
“Each year’s exhibit feels like unwrapping Christmas anew,” Porr said. “No matter where the Nativity scenes come from, they all share the same story of love and light that unites us.”
