PLAINVIEW —51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University announces the establishment of the Dell and Pat Brown Endowed Scholarship, created by the Brown family in memory of two longtime Plainview educators whose lives were devoted to students.

While the family initiated the endowment following Dell Brown’s recent passing, friends and community members are encouraged to contribute to honor the couple’s legacy.

Harlen “Dell” Brown served Plainview Independent School District for more than 30 years as a teacher, coach, and principal at several campuses, including Lamar, Hillcrest, and Ash elementary schools. Known for his steady leadership, he guided Ash Elementary until his retirement in 1991, when the school’s annex was named in his honor. He continued serving students through leadership of the Triple AAA Academy for at-risk youth and later in interim roles in Plainview and Hale Center schools.

Pat Brown shared Dell’s commitment to education. A Plainview native, she served as a teacher, guidance counselor, and Future Teachers of America sponsor. She helped launch the district’s first drug-free program and was active in several professional organizations supporting educators. After retiring from Plainview ISD, she joined 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ as an adjunct professor, supervising student teachers in the Don A. Williams School of Education.

“The Browns were deeply respected educators whose work touched countless lives,” said Addison Pratt, Development Officer for Endowed Scholarships and Special Events. “It is a privilege for 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ to join the Brown family in honoring their commitment to students by supporting future teachers in their name.”

The Dell and Pat Brown Endowed Scholarship will benefit students preparing for careers in education, reflecting the couple’s lifelong dedication to service. The scholarship also strengthens 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ’s mission to equip servant-leaders who will influence schools and communities through Christian commitment and academic preparation.
