PLAINVIEW —51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University announces the establishment of the Lubbock Power and Light / Daniel Lyle Odom Endowed Scholarship, created to honor the longstanding partnership between Lubbock Power and Light (LP&L) and Daniel Lyle Odom, a Lubbock business leader and former chairman of the Electric Utility Board.
While the endowment was initiated in recognition of Odom’s service, friends, colleagues, and community partners are encouraged to contribute.
Founded in 1916, Lubbock Power and Light has grown into one of the largest municipally owned electric utilities in Texas. Today, LP&L operates as a Transmission Distribution Service Provider, delivering electric service to more than 108,000 customers throughout the Lubbock area. The utility is overseen by the Electric Utility Board, an independent governing body established in 2004 to ensure strong local oversight, long-term planning, and community accountability.
Odom served on that board from 2016 to 2024, including terms as chairman and finance chairman. He is the President and CEO of Western Bank and has provided community-focused leadership in both the financial and civic sectors. His service to LP&L helped guide infrastructure improvements, long-range planning, and initiatives to strengthen electric service reliability for the residents of the Lubbock area. He is also active in civic life through organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and the Charles Adams Studio Project.
“The creation of this scholarship reflects both LP&L’s commitment to the region and Daniel Odom’s dedication to serving the people of West Texas,” said Addison Pratt, Development Officer for Endowed Scholarships and Special Events. “We are grateful for their example of leadership, and we are honored to support 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ students who will carry that legacy forward.”
The Lubbock Power and Light / Daniel Lyle Odom Endowed Scholarship will give preference to students enrolled in the Kenneth L. Mattox School of Mathematics and Science or the School of Business, helping prepare future leaders who will serve their communities with integrity, purpose, and professionalism.
