Assistant Beach and Indoor Volleyball Coach

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  

The Assistant Coach for Beach and Indoor Volleyball is responsible for assisting in all aspects of the intercollegiate athletic programs for women’s indoor and beach volleyball. The assistant coach will support the head coach in creating a competitive and Christ-centered environment that fosters growth, discipline, and academic achievement. This position reports to the Head Coach of Beach and Indoor Volleyball and supports the mission of the university and athletic department.

Candidates should be willing to assist with teaching duties in the Division of Physical Education and/or fulfill other athletic-related responsibilities as assigned.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES: 

  1. Assist in planning and implementing training sessions and match strategies for both indoor and beach volleyball.
  2. Demonstrate a strong understanding of the game of beach volleyball, including rules, techniques, and gameplay strategy.
  3. Be able to independently lead and supervise a team at competitions or tournaments, including travel, game management, and player supervision.
  4. Recruit quality student-athletes who align with the university’s values and meet athletic standards.
  5. Ensure understanding and compliance with NAIA rules and regulations.
  6. Monitor and support student-athlete academic performance.
  7. Assist in scheduling practices, matches, and travel for both programs.
  8. Help manage team budgets and logistical organization.
  9. Maintain and oversee inventory of athletic equipment and supplies.
  10. Contribute to game-day operations, campus engagement, and community outreach.
  11. Assist with marketing and development efforts for the volleyball programs.
  12. Serve as a role model and mentor to student-athletes, promoting personal and spiritual growth.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree Required, Master’s Degree Prefferred

Experience and Knowledge:

Collegiate playing or coaching experience in indoor or beach volleyball is highly desirable. Working knowledge of beach volleyball rules, strategies, and training methodology is expected.

  5. Ability to effectively represent the program and university when traveling solo with a team.

Work Environment: The work environment for this position is a standard office setting. Employees will work primarily at a desk or workstation, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers.  The office maintains a controlled temperature.  Noise levels are generally moderate, with typical office sounds such as conversations and office machinery. 

Hours of Work: Plainview campus - Although full-time, nonexempt Plainview employees are normally scheduled to work 37.75 hours per week, the official work week for full-time salaried employees is forty (40) hours. External campuses - Although full-time, nonexempt external campus employees are normally scheduled to work 37.75 hours per week, the official work week for full-time salaried employees is forty (40) hours. Normal work days on all campuses are Monday through Friday

Physical Demands:

  • Frequently stand and walk;
  • Frequently flex upper trunk forward while sitting or standing;
  • Frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds;
  • Frequently carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally carry up to 25 pounds;
  • Occasionally pull or push objects;
  • Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees;
  • Frequently reach at or below shoulder height, and occasionally reach above shoulder height.
  • Volleyball movements like hard driven ball, frequent serving, etc.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance.   If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  Employee must be able and willing to travel and provide recruitment assistance to external campuses.  Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license.  Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
