Lubbock attorney to give commencement address at 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ

PLAINVIEW, TX — Dr. Donna Hedgepath, president of 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ Baptist University, has announced that attorney and university trustee Noe Valles will serve as the featured speaker for 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ’s spring commencement ceremony on the Plainview campus.

Graduation exercises are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, May 16, 2026, in Hutcherson Center on the Plainview campus. The ceremony will be livestreamed at wbu.edu and on 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ’s YouTube channel.

John Bray, a graduating senior from Frisco, will present the student address. Dr. Hedgepath will offer the welcome and introduce the commencement speaker.

“We are honored to welcome Noe Valles as our commencement speaker,” Dr. Hedgepath said. “Noe’s life story reflects the transformational impact of Christian higher education, and his deep commitment to 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ and its students makes him an outstanding choice to address our graduates.”

A first-generation college student, Valles earned his bachelor’s degree in history from 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ in 1988 before going on to earn his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the Texas Tech University School of Law in 1993. Today, he serves as a senior partner at Glasheen, Valles & Inderman, LLP in Lubbock.

Born to immigrant parents from Mexico and raised in Plainview, Valles has often credited 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ with helping shape the direction of his life and career.

“Noe understands the opportunities and challenges many of our students face because he has walked that journey himself,” Dr. Hedgepath said. “He has remained deeply invested in helping students succeed, especially first-generation students pursuing their dreams through education.”

Valles and his wife, Irma, have been longtime supporters of the university and advocates for student scholarships. Valles currently serves on 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ’s Board of Trustees after previously serving on the university’s Advancement Council. He was recognized with 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓƵ’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2018, and he and Irma received the Keeper of the Flame Award in 2024 for their lifetime contributions to the university.
