LOCATION: 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓÆµ Baptist University (WBU) – Plainview Campus

POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Exempt (Administrative)
POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Counseling Center Staff.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Counseling Services is responsible for the operations and staff of the Counseling Center which is dedicated to providing the highest quality programs, services, and opportunities to support student development and success. The Director of Counseling Services will support the mission of 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓÆµ Baptist University, as well as the Student Development Goals of the Student Services area. 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓÆµ Baptist Student Services seeks to create Student Leaders who are Christ-like, Capable and Committed.
SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES AS RELATED TO COUNSELING SERVICES:
- Provide professional counseling services to students, faculty, and staff.
- Make appropriate counseling referrals.
- Oversee and participate in on call weekend and evening crisis response.
- Respond to crisis situations.
- Plan and develop outreach programs to the university community: develop and lead workshops, seminars, or presentations on topics like stress management, healthy relationships, grief, or spiritual wellness.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with administrative and academic departments: collaborate with student life and academic departments on wellness initiatives and consult with faculty, staff, and residence life personnel regarding student concerns and mental health best practices.
- Develop and monitor annual budget.
- Assist in maintaining data collection and reporting for program evaluation and improvement.
- Participate in or chair university committees as needed or appointed.
- Provide clinical supervision for the universities Master of Arts degree in Counseling program.
SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES AS RELATED TO DISABILITY SERVICES:
- Provides short-term, solution-focused counseling services to enrolled students, including intake assessments, crisis intervention, and referral coordination as appropriate.
- Develops and maintains individualized care plans and safety plans when indicated.
- Oversees the daily operations of the Counseling Services office, including scheduling, record-keeping, and service delivery.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates counseling services policies and procedures to ensure ethical practice and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinates campus-wide mental-health awareness, prevention programming, and wellness initiatives.
- Maintains professional licensure and completes required continuing education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Master’s degree.
- State recognized counseling license is preferred.
Experience and Knowledge:
- One (1) year of supervised counseling experience, which can include a practicum or internship is required.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of the counseling process.
- Experience working in higher education is preferred.
- Experience working directly with university age students is preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Must be familiar with the Life Developmental stage of university students (e.g., Needs, social concerns and issues that impact them).
- Must be able to communicate professionally accepted standards of practice in regard to counseling techniques utilized (nothing unconventional of experimental).
- Must be able to keep information gleaned from counseling in strict confidence.
- Must be flexible, patient, and skilled in listening and reflective responses.
- Must demonstrate an awareness of 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÊÓÆµ Baptist University’s mission while providing support that is clinically informed, inclusive, and ethically grounded.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance. If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Employee must be able and willing to travel and provide recruitment assistance to external campuses. Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
